A Vicksburg man was charged with first-degree murder after a woman was found stabbed to death in her Grammar Street home Wednesday night.

Derrick Ramone Hall, 34, 1326 Grove St., was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the stabbing death of Kathryn Peacock. Vicksburg Police Chief Walter Armstrong described Hall as an acquaintance of Peacock’s.

Peacock, 31, 1224 Grammar St., was found at about 8 p.m. by her boyfriend who called 911, Armstrong said.

“When police arrived, we found the victim in the house deceased with multiple stab wounds,” he said.

Peacock was pronounced dead at 10 p.m., Deputy Coroner Ron Regan said.

Her body was sent to the Mississippi State Crime Lab for autopsy. Funeral arrangements had not been set Thursday, Ragan said.

Hall was held without bail Thursday pending an initial appearance set for 1 p.m. in Vicksburg Municipal Court.

The homicide is the second in Vicksburg this year.

On Feb. 8, Jimmy Johnson, 32 of Talluah was shot and killed outside LD’s Restaurant and Lounge on Mulberry Street. Police were already on scene responding to a call at the time the fatal shots were fired, Armstrong has said.

Kentrell Williams, 22, also of Tallulah was charged with murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a stolen firearm.

The murder case against Williams was expected to be presented to the Warren County grand jury this week.

Williams is also being held for the Louisiana Department of Corrections for a probation violation. He was convicted in April 2014 of illegal use of a weapon or dangerous instrument. Kentrell Williams is also at the center of an open investigation in Tallulah, but Madison Parish officials have declined to comment.

Just one killing was reported in Vicksburg and Warren County during 2014, leading to the lowest homicide rate in recent history.

Emanuel Erves, 70, died Feb. 23, 2014, when police say Caleb Erves shoved him down the stairs of a boarding house on Walnut Street. It was unclear if the two men were related.
