Southern Miss finished its non-conference schedule and headed into the last weekend of the regular season without skipping a beat.

Chase Scott capped a six-run rally in the fourth inning with a bases-clearing double, and Southern Miss went on to beat Tulane 8-4 on Tuesday night.

It was the 10th consecutive win for Southern Miss (32-16-1), which will face Middle Tennessee on the road in a three-game series beginning Thursday.

The Golden Eagles have posted four shutouts during their winning streak, but also gotten plenty of offense when they’ve needed it. Tuesday’s win was the third straight game in which they’ve scored at least eight runs.

Southern Miss snapped a 2-2 tie in the fourth inning when Austin Roussel doubled and later scored on an error. Connor Barron delivered a two-run double, and Scott followed two batters later with his three-run double to make it 8-2.

Scott extended his hitting streak to 18 games. He was 2-for-5 with two doubles, three RBIs and a run scored.

Roussel had two hits, and Dylan Burdeaux scored two runs. Burdeaux hit a solo home run in the first inning. Six of Southern Miss’ eight hits went for extra bases.

Tulane roughed up USM starter Cord Cokcrell for four runs on nine hits in 4 2/3 innings, but reliever Christian Talley slammed the door.

Talley (3-5) didn’t allow a run over the last 4 1/3 innings. He gave up one hit, no walks, and struck out three.

Richard Carthon went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for Tulane (31-20), and Hunter Williams was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.

“I thought we really swung the bat well, but not enough to show for it,” Tulane coach David Pierce said. “We’re not really satisfied with our performance even though we had 10 hits, but we didn’t execute the hit and run with first and second. There were some things on the slash play early in the game, and we just didn’t get it done.”
