Teen pageant contestants arrive soon

Summer vacation for 23 teens across the state will include competing in the 2015 Miss Mississippi’s Outstanding Teen Pageant, which will be held in Vicksburg June 4 through June 6.
The theme for the 11th installment of the teen pageant is “Magical Dreams” said Jaynie Fedell, the executive producer for the Miss Mississippi’s Outstanding Teen Pageant.
“It’s going to be an exciting show with a magical theme running all the way through it,” she said.
Local resident and the 2013 Miss Mississippi’s Outstanding Teen Anne Elizabeth Buys along with Christina Bostick, who was crowned Miss Mississippi’s Outstanding Teen in 2010 will serve as mistresses of ceremonies for the three nights of competition.
Miss Mississippi 2015 Jasmine Murray will be a guest performer along with Michael Minor and the Miss Mississippi’s Outstanding Teen dancers, Fedell said.
The Miss Mississippi’s Outstanding Teen Pageant, which is the sister pageant to the Miss America Pageant crowned their first winner in 2005, and each year the competitions have grown said Winky Freeman, the executive director for the Miss Mississippi’s Outstanding Teen Pageant.
This year, the state arm of the teen pageant will award more than $200,00 in in-kind scholarships to contestants ranging in age from 13 to 17, Freeman said.
The contestants will compete in talent, evening gown, fitness and interview portions of the pageant.
Events are scheduled throughout the week for the contestants including events open to the public.
On June 1, the contestants will be at Newk’s Eatery from 5 to 8 p.m. as part of a fundraiser.
The teens will be busing tables at the restaurant with a portion of the proceeds from sales going to benefit the Children’s Miracle Network Fedell said.
The Miss America Organization and the Children’s Miracle Network partner to help raise funds and bring awareness to children’s hospitals throughout the United States, Fedell said.
Autograph signings are scheduled from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the Outlets at Vicksburg and from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Friday along downtown Washington Street.
Preliminary competitions are scheduled for Thursday and Friday night at the Vicksburg City Auditorium, 901 Monroe St. and the final night of competition and crowning will be held Saturday.
All competitions begin at 8 p.m. and tickets are $25 for the preliminary competitions and $40 for the final night.
Student tickets and seating will be available at the door, only and the cost is $15 for the Thursday and Friday competitions and $20 for Saturday. I.D. is required.
