The Vicksburg Post welcomed Dylan Rubino to the newspaper’s newsroom staff Monday.

Rubino, a journalism major at The University of Mississippi, will be working at The Post as an intern through July. He will work covering news and sports throughout Vicksburg and Warren County.

“I’m excited to get to know the city of Vicksburg and the culture this city is known for,” Rubino, a native of Tuscaloosa, Ala., said. “I came to Vicksburg for the first time during the Memorial Day weekend and just fell in love with the museums and the rich traditions this city has.”

Rubino is a senior and currently serves as the sports editor of The Daily Mississippian, the university’s student newspaper.

“In addition to our core mission of serving the Vicksburg and Warren County community, we have an obligation to seek out and offer an opportunity like this to young, talented journalists like Dylan,” Post publisher Tim Reeves said.

To contact Dylan about a story, or to simply welcome him to Vicksburg, he can be reached by email at dylan.rubino@vicksburgpost.com.

Although Rubino’s stop in Vicksburg is temporary, he is just the latest in the changes made to The Post’s newsroom.

The Post welcomed Alexander Swatson to the newsroom in late May, while Alana Norris, a recent graduate from The University of Alabama, will join the newsroom’s staff Monday, June 8.

“We are excited about the energy and excitement these new staff members have brought to the newsroom and the newspaper as a whole,” Reeves said. “Their arrival — combined with the great experience of those already on staff — has been a driving force in the recent changes to the newspaper; changes that have been overwhelmingly supported and applauded by our readers.”
