Oneda Jones Elliott

Oneda Jones Elliott, former resident of Vicksburg, transitioned to be with her Lord and Savior, after a brief illness on Friday, June 5, 2015, at the Huntsville Hospital in Huntsville, Ala. She was 78.

Oneda attended the local schools in the city, graduating from Bowman High School in 1954. After graduation from high school she entered the Women’s Army Corp. She retired from Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL.

Oneda was predeceased by her parents, Minnie Boykin Jones and Johnnie Jones Jr.; and a sister, Loretta Jones Williams.

She leaves to cherish her memories as a Christian wife, mother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend her husband of 57 years, Louis J. Elliott and three sons, Michael Louis, David Wayne, and Warren Paul, all of Huntsville, Ala., sister, Rose Jones Steele(George) of Meridianville, Ala; brother, Alfred “Buddy” Jones(Rebecca) of Vicksburg, and sister Barbara Jones Tolliver(Charlie) of Vicksburg; uncles A.J. Jones, Chicago, Ill., Odell Jones, Anguilla; Melvin Jones, Cary; Charles Jones, Delta City, and Harvey Jones, Brandon; aunts; Lillie Jones Usher, Rolling Fork, Christine Jones Buchanan and Rubye Jones Parker, Vicksburg; Daisy Jones, Rolling Fork; Bertha Jones Victor of Flushing, New York;  and Edna Jones Hernard of Chicago, Ill. She leaves other family members and friends including the Chisley and Larkin Families of Vicksburg, Annie Pope of Chicago, Ill. and her best friend Laverne Savage Mack of San Jose, Calif.

Family hour will be held Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at Nelms Memorial Funeral Home, 2501 Carmichael Avenue, Huntsville, Ala. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at First Missionary Baptist Church, 3509 Blue Springs Road, Huntsville, Ala.
