The Mississippi State Extension Service has a day full of activities planned ranging from home landscaping and wildlife seminars to a benefit concert to raise money for the Ag and Forestry Museum at their first Mississippi Ag & Forestry EXPO.

The EXPO will be held at the Mississippi Ag and Forestry Museum Friday, June 12 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Lunch will be provided for those attending.

“There are six seminars being presented that are designed to be of interest to producers, landowners, homeowners and others,” Dr. Cary W. “Bill” Herndon, Jr. said. “These seminars will be presented by our MSU Extension specialists.”

At 8 a.m., Dr. Gary Bachman will present a home landscaping seminar on Mississippi Medallion Program Plants and Your Garden.

Following Bachman, Dr. Morgan Farnell and Dr. Tom Tabler will present a poultry seminar on House Efficiencies and Economies of Scale at 9 a.m.

At 10 a.m., Dr. Daryl Jones will give a talk on land diversification called Natural Resource and Conservation Land Management.

Dr. Bronson Strickland will give a wildlife seminar on Effective Wild Hog Control and Deer Management Nutrition at 11 a.m.

Following lunch, the seminars will pick back up at 1 p.m. with Dr. Andy Ezell presenting on timber with his Hardwood Management for Recreation and Income seminar.

The seminars will conclude with a farm bill program seminar by Sam Franklin with Delta Wildlife on Program Overviews for Landowners at 2 p.m.

The event will also include a farmers’ market and exhibitor booths on Main Street in Small Town, Mississippi, live tractor demonstrations provided by Mississippi Ag and farm safety demonstrations provided by Farm Bureau.

Following the EXPO at 6 p.m. there will be a “Raising the Barn” benefit concert to support the Ag and Forestry Museum Foundation. Funds raised will help with recovery efforts subsequent to the fire which damaged the Ag Museum late last year.
