A Pattison man was hospitalized and another was on the lam Thursday following a shooting Wednesday afternoon in Claiborne County.
At 2:30 p.m., Malcolm Hedrick, 24, is believed to have shot a 24-year-old man in the shoulder on Forest Grove Road in Pattison, Claiborne County Sheriff Marvin Lucas said.
Hedrick is described as a 5’4” 170-pound black man.
Lucas declined to release the identity of the victim who he said was in critical condition at a Jackson hospital.
Hedrick is believed to have come to Warren County following the shooting, Lucas said.
Sheriff Martin Pace discovered Hedrick’s black four-door Cadillac at about 4:30 p.m. on Demby Drive as he and deputies searched the south end of the county Wednesday.
“Nobody was in or around the vehicle,” Pace said.
The car was towed back to Port Gibson where Mississippi Bureau of Investigations agents searched it for clues.
“The Warren County sheriff’s department is working to help us try to find him. We’re also looking for him down there,” Lucas said.
Claiborne County officials are also working to find a motive in the shooting.
“Once the victim comes home we will be able to come to him and he can help us come up with a motive,” Lucas said.
Anyone with information about Hedrick’s whereabouts is encouraged to call the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office at 601-437-5161, the Warren County Sheriff’s Office at 601-636-1761 or Central Mississippi Crime Stoppers at 601-355-8477. Crime Stoppers will pay a cash reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to the arrest of a felony suspect. Callers remain anonymous and do not have to testify in court.
