Four people were in jail following a drug roundup by Vicksburg police early Tuesday.
Herman Green, 30, 820 Queen St., was arrested at 3:45 a.m. Tuesday and charged with two counts of sale of cocaine, and Dallas Grayson, 56, 1607 Court St., Jimmy Smith, 36, 1519 South St., and Louis Yates, no age available, 712 Speed St., were charged with a single count of sale of cocaine, Vicksburg police Capt. Sandra Williams said.
The investigation was the result of an undercover narcotics investigation.
“We’ve got other individuals that we’re investigating, and we’re going to continue to investigate, arrest and prosecute anyone continuing illegal activities in this community,” Police Chief Walter Armstrong said.
Municipal Judge Toni Terrett declined to set bail for Green who is accused of selling the drugs June 18 and June 25 in the 1300 block of Bowmar Avenue. Green is currently on probation for a 2008 manslaughter conviction in the death of 19-year-old William Wade.
“The Mississippi department of corrections has issued a warrant saying you have violated the terms of your earned released supervision,” Terrett told Green.
Bail was set at $20,000 each for Grayson, Smith and Yates. All three are previously convicted felons.
Grayson was convicted of sale of a controlled substance in the early 1980s. Yates told Terrett he was convicted of possession of cocaine “about two years ago” but was off probation.
Smith became irate in the courtroom when Terrett asked if he had a prior felony conviction. He could not remember his conviction date but said he was released from prison in 2009.
“Those charges are old? Why are you reading up on them? I’ve done did my time!” he yelled.
Armstrong said the four men are considered low-level street corner dealers.
“It’s just as important to get those guys off the street as it is mid- to high-level dealers,” Armstrong said. “We understand that all drug involvement leads to other crimes such as burglaries and assaults.”
After the initial court appearance, all four men were taken to the Warren County Jail.
