In the Warren County Tax Assessor race, Ben Luckett defeated Brian Craig Breithaupt in the Republican primary Tuesday. Luckett will face incumbent Angela Brown in the November general election.

Luckett had 68.57 percent of the votes with 3,127 votes to Breithaupt’s 1,422 votes, which made up 31.18 percent of the total votes. There were 11 write-in votes cast.

“I want to be sure I thank everybody that came out today and voted,” he said. “To Brian, he ran a good clean race, and I appreciate that. I know Brian and we’ve known each other for a while, and I just think it was just a good race altogether.”

Luckett said he was overwhelmed by the numbers.

“I’m really thankful for the community and how they voted today,” he said.

In November, Luckett will face Warren County Tax Assessor Angela Brown. Brown ran unopposed in the Democratic primary, receiving 2,469 votes. There were 18 write-in votes cast.

“That’s going to be a tough one,” he said. “She’s going to be tough to beat, and I know that.”

Luckett faced Brown four years ago in the same race but lost. This time he said he thinks he’s ready.

“I’m looking forward to the challenge,” he said. “I think we can beat her. I’m looking forward to having another shot at it.”

Breithaupt said running the election was a challenge.

“I’ve got a business to run and I’ve got four kids,” he said. “It was tough getting out and doing all that needed to be done. It was a good overall experience; I met a lot of nice people.”

Breithaupt ran previously, about 15 years ago, and he said he doesn’t plan to run again.

“I gave it my best shot, and it didn’t work out,” he said. “I’ve been in real estate for 22 years. I’ll stay in real estate and keep doing what I was doing before.”

As for his competitor in the primary race, Breithaupt said he wishes Luckett the best.

“I think Ben ran a good race and he’s certainly qualified to do the job, and Warren County would do good to have him as the next tax assessor,” he said.

Brown was not available for comment.
