Man held in gas station robbery

A Vicksburg man accused of robbing a convenience store clerk early Tuesday was held without bail.
George Patterson III, 26, 1002 Howard St., was arrested at 6:15 a.m. Tuesday while walking near the intersection of Cherry and Main streets and charged with robbery, Vicksburg police Capt. Sandra Williams said.
Patterson is accused of robbing the clerk at Kangaroo, 4888 U.S. 61 South, and stealing a small amount of cash at 1:05 a.m., Williams said.
“He came in and attempted to purchase a pack of gum. When she opened the register, he fought her and took a small amount of cash,” Williams said.
The clerk was not injured in the scuffle, Williams said.
Cash missing in the robbery was not recovered, Williams said.
Patterson was held without bail in the Issaquena County Correctional Facility awaiting an initial court appearance set for Wednesday.
Woman charged with having stolen car
A woman accused of crashing a stolen vehicle and abandoning it at a Vicksburg casino was held without bail Tuesday.
Vanessa Sullivan, also known as Vanessa Taylor, was arrested Monday after crashing a stolen 2011 Chevrolet Malibu at Riverwalk Casino, 1406 Warrenton Road, Vicksburg police Capt. Sandra Williams said.
“When officers arrived on scene, she had abandoned the vehicle and fled,” Williams said.
Sullivan was identified, arrested and charged with receiving stolen property.
The vehicle was reported stolen Saturday in Richland, Williams said.
Sullivan was held without bail in the Issaquena County Correctional Facility awaiting an initial court appearance set for Wednesday.
