I love summer. Now this triple digit heat, I could do without.

Between not having school and weeks spent at the beach and at camp, summer break is a time yearned for year-round.

But it’s true what they say — all good things must come to an end.

I just never expected this summer to come to an end so abruptly. I suppose I wasn’t paying attention, but last week I suddenly announced that school was to start this week.

I suppose the announcement was more for myself than anyone else, but I was shocked. I think I had intentionally been avoiding looking at the calendar to see when school started.

Part of my surprise may have come from spending four years at Louisiana Tech, which doesn’t start classes until September.

Regardless, I’m an education reporter and school starting means I have plenty of education-related things to do now that school is starting.

Despite the stress that comes along with all things back-to-school, I’m excited to be in and out of the schools again, seeing the familiar faces of students, faculty and staff.

Seeing the children really gives me a little boost, plus they say the funniest things.

I’m glad I don’t have to keep them all day though, and for that overwhelming task I commend the teachers and everyone else who together keep the school running.

As stressed and excited as I was about school starting back up, I somehow overlooked a very important detail: I am a student.

That’s right; this month I begin my second and final year with the University of Mississippi Graduate School.

On the bright side, I won’t be in Oxford anymore because all I have left is two online classes and my thesis.

Luckily this will be my last year of studies for a little while, and luckily I’ve still got two more weeks of summer break.
