John Edward Burton died Friday, Aug. 7, 2015, at Merit Health River Region Medical Center. He was 73.

Mr. Burton was a graduate of Redwood High School and served in the U.S. Army stationed in Germany. He was employed by International Paper Company for over 40 years until he became ill last fall.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Eva Boyett Burton; a brother, Everett Burton; and a sister, Georgia Ann Downs.

Survivors include his daughter, Angela “Angel” Burton Barnette; two grandchildren; brother, Robert Burton; sister, Shirley Cauthen of Pearl; and other family, friends and classmates.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
