Michael Glynn Evan

Michael Glynn Evans, 60, died from complications of cancer July 26, 2015.

Known as “Glynn” to his closest family and “Mike” to his many friends, he was born Dec. 28, 1954, in Westmeath, Ireland. When he was 2 years old, he was adopted by, and was the only, much-loved child of John William “J.W.” and Roberts “Scootie” Sorrel Evans. J.W. and Scootie brought him to Vicksburg, where he lived most of his life.

Glynn was kind, generous, caring and a good friend to many. He was proud of his Irish heritage and his American home.

He attended St. Aloysius Catholic School and was graduated from St. Stanislaus in Bay St. Louis.

Most recently, Glynn worked for Malick Joseph Tobacco Co. and Thomas Furniture. He loved boating and vacationing in Fairfield Bay, Ark., and was an avid Dallas Cowboy and Mississippi State Bulldog fan. He enjoyed cooking out with his friends and visiting his many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was a regular communicant at St. Paul Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, J.W. and Scootie; and his wife, Doris Evans.

He is survived by his uncle, George Evans (Carol) of Jackson; his aunt, Mary Barber of Baton Rouge, La.; his uncle, Carl Evans, S.C., of Baton Rouge; and cousins and good friend Debra Ann Scott.

The family would like to thank Glynn’s many friends, family, physicians, nurses and other medical providers who helped care for him and brought him communion during his illness.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, 2015, at St. Paul Catholic Church, with Mass of Christian Burial following at 10, under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Vicksburg Catholic Schools (St. Aloysius), St. Stanislaus or St. Paul Catholic Church.
