Bail was set at $1 million for a Vicksburg man accused of stabbing another man to death early Saturday on Grove Street.
Municipal Judge Toni Terrett set bail for Bernard Brown, 50, 2208 Grove Street Apt. B, who is charged with first-degree murder in the stabbing death of 41-year-old Mack Vaughn.
“You do have a prior criminal history dating back to the 1980s,” Terrett told Brown before setting bail.
Brown is accused attacking Vaughn outside the apartment complex on Grove Street about 4:15 a.m., Williams said.
“The initial call came from the scene and the hospital did call as well,” Williams said.
Brown was taken by private vehicle to Merit Health River Region medical Center where he died at 6:35 a.m. Saturday.
He died of multiple stab wounds to the chest, Warren County Coroner Doug Huskey said.
Police have said they believe the stabbing was the result of an earlier domestic argument involving Vaughn, Brown and Brown’s wife, adding police responded to the domestic violence call at the apartments about 3:30 p.m.
Brown was arrested about an hour later while he was walking in the 2100 block of Clay Street after police used a photo sent to them by Warren County E-911 dispatch supervisor Melissa Trcka to identify him.
Trcka remembered the domestic violence call earlier in the morning and was able to track down a photo of Brown on an ID card.
Using a secure radio channel, she notified and police officer looking for Brown she had a photo and address for the car police they thought he was driving.
Brown was taken to the Warren County Jail where he remained in custody Tuesday morning.
