Porters Chapel Academy started a busy softball week Monday with a big win.

Raylee Barwick went 3-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored, and drove in the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth inning as the Lady Eagles overcame a three-run deficit to beat Amite School Center 7-6.

Barwick scored the tying run in the sixth inning on a sacrifice bunt by Cameron Yocum, then singled in the eighth to bring in her sister Shelby Barwick. Shelby Barwick had started the inning on second base in accordance with the rules of softball’s international tiebreaker.

Raylee Barwick later scored on an error, and Mallarie Ashley had an RBI single to give the Lady Eagles a 7-4 lead. Amite scored twice in the bottom of the inning, but PCA held on.

Kaylee Hinson scored two runs and drove in one for PCA, Ashley was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, and Chelsea Myers had two hits. Hannah Embry struck out five batters while pitching a complete game.

PCA (10-4-1, 2-1 District 5-AA) avenged an earlier loss to Amite as it won Monday’s pivotal district game.

The Lady Eagles will host Franklin tonight at 6 in another district game, then play the Jackson Victors in a non-district game Saturday morning.

 

Riverfield 15, St. Al 0

St. Aloysius’ difficult season continued Monday with a blowout loss at Riverfield Academy.

Riverfield scored 12 runs in the bottom of the third inning to win via the mercy rule, but only had four hits in the game.

Three St. Al pitchers combined to issue 15 walks, with 11 of those coming in the third inning.

Only 36 of the 109 pitches they threw were strikes.

Michaela Lewis and Erin Branch each had two RBIs for Riverfield.

Jordan McDonald and Kyla Goodlow each had a single to account for St. Al’s only hits.

St. Al (0-8) will go on the road again today to play Manchester Academy at 6 p.m.
