A Vicksburg man who led police on a chase in a stolen car was held without bail Tuesday.

Henry Armstead, 32, 2418 Halls Ferry Road, was arrested at 11:45 a.m. Saturday and charged with felony eluding and auto theft, Vicksburg police Capt. Sandra Williams said. Additional, Armstead was charged with an auto burglary from June 9, she said.

Police attempted to stop Armstead for reckless driving while he was driving northbound at Halls Ferry Road and Lightcap Boulevard in a 2000 Cadillac Deville, but he would not stop, Williams said.

Armstead continued north on Halls Ferry and then on to Cherry Street where he finally stopped and fled on foot near Arthur Street, Williams said. After a short foot pursuit, Armstread was captured, she said.

Police called the owner of the vehicle, who was unaware the Cadillac had been stolen, Williams said. It was later returned to the owner.

Armstead was held without bail Tuesday in the Issaquena County Correctional Facility awaiting an initial appearance set for Tuesday in Vicksburg Municipal Court.

 

Man held in robbery with screwdriver

A Jackson man accused of robbing a hotel with a screwdriver was held without bail Tuesday after leading police on a chase.

Christopher Gray, 24, was arrested Sunday and charged with armed robbery, Vicksburg police Capt. Sandra Williams said.

Gray is accused of robbing Days Inn, 90 Warrenton Road, with a screwdriver Aug. 31, Williams said. A clerk at the hotel received minor injuries during the robbery, Williams said.

Gray was stopped Sunday on Washington Street near Lucy Bryson Street where he gave police a false drivers license. The license number was for a man who is wanted for possession of stolen property, Williams said.

When backup arrived to arrest Gray, he fled in his vehicle to Interstate 20 and turned south on U.S. 61. Near Iowa Boulevard, he jumped from his vehicle and ran into a wooded area. A police dog was deployed during the search for Gray, and he was arrested about an hour later, Williams said.

Gray was armed with a pistol at the time of his arrest and could face weapons charges. He could also face charges related to a burglary, she said.

Gray was held without bail Tuesday in the Issaquena County Correctional Facility.

 

Stolen car recovered

A stolen vehicle was recovered over the Labor Day weekend by Warren County deputies.

Saturday, while on patrol in the 1900 block of Glass Road, a deputy recovered a gray Chevrolet Cruze that had been reported stolen in Hinds County, according to Warren County sheriff’s records.
