VHS hosts college softball game

Vicksburg High will host a college softball game between Jackson State and East Mississippi Community College at its “Softball Swamp” field on Oct. 24. The game will be played as a doubleheader at 1 and 3 p.m., and admission is $2 at the gate.

Fall tennis program

The City of Vicksburg’s youth fall tennis program is under way at the Halls Ferry Park courts. The program will run Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, from 5 to 6 p.m., and is free. For more information, call Rick Shields at 601-618-4757.

Over the River Run

Registration is now open for the 27th Annual Over the River Run, a 5-mile run and race walk across the Old Mississippi River Bridge. The Over the River Run is scheduled for Oct. 10 at 8 a.m. at the Mississippi Welcome Center on Washington Street. A 1-mile children’s fun run will follow the 5-mile run and walk.

The entry fee is $25 for individuals before Oct. 1, or $30 after that date, and $15 for children 10-and-under. There’s also a $55 rate for families of as many as five people, and a $75 corporate rate.

Alcorn golf tournament

The Alcorn State University Alumni Foundation will host its 7th annual Purple & Gold Golf Tournament Oct. 16 at Clear Creek Golf Course. The two-person scramble will begin at 10 a.m. The registration fee is $100 per person, and the entry deadline is Oct. 2.

WC golf tryouts

Tryouts for Warren Central’s varsity golf team will be held Sept. 19 at Clear Creek Golf Course in Bovina. The girls tryouts will begin at 1 p.m. and the boys at 2 p.m.

Copper Mill Golf Classic

The Arrowhead Junior Golf Tour will host the Copper Mill Junior Classic Sept. 26 and 27 at Copper Mill Golf Club in Zachary, La. The registration fee for the two-day, 36-hole tournament is $185 and includes greens fees, gifts and trophies in four age divisions. The deadline to register is Sept. 24.
