B&B Theatres, the ninth largest theatre chain in North America, will replace Wilcox Cinema 6 at the Vicksburg Mall, according to information from the company.
The company is holding a job fair from 3 to 8 p.m. Sept. 22, and noon to 6 p.m. Sept. 23, at the Army Recruiting Center in the Mall to interview and hire employees for all positions for the B&B Theatre Vicksburg Mall Cinema 6, according to company officials.
“I can’t wait for them to move in. This will be their first theater in Mississippi,” mall manager Mike Carlisle said. “They are one of the top 10 cinema companies in the country.” He said B&B is expected to reopen the doors to the mall theater by either late October or early November.
“They will probably be doing some remodeling, but I believe what they are going to do is operate the theater as it is through the holidays and then make their changes,” he said. “They have all the movies and will present a very good selection of films to the people here in Vicksburg. We are very fortunate to get them. I believe the people here will be pleased.”
B&B Theatres has been family-owned and operated since 1924, when Elmer Bills Sr. opened a movie house in Salisbury, Missouri, where the future Mrs. Bills played the piano for silent movies. During the company’s 88 years, and four generations of family involvement, it has seen the coming of sound, color, Technicolor, stadium seating, multiplexes, and now digital cinema.
According to information from the company, B&B Theatres plans to bring more movie options to the Vicksburg area and changes to improve the customer experience at the box office and concession stand and enable guests to participate in the company’s backstage pass loyalty program, a rewards system in which repeat guests can earn discounts on tickets and concessions and other promotions.
B&B’s announcement comes one week after Wilcox Cinema 6 announced it was closing its theater in the mall after seven years, leaving the city without a full-time cinema.
