Two women who were at a motel where a Warren County man was shot and killed Sept. 11 were held without bail Friday.

At 2 p.m. Thursday, police and deputies raided the home of Kaci Flaharty, 25, 123 Grey Oaks Drive and charged her with possession of methamphetamine, Vicksburg police Capt. Sandra Williams said.

“We are continuing to follow up leads in the murder case and sorting out information,” Williams said.

Hiding inside a clothes dryer in the home, deputies found Christina Cotter, 36, who had been wanted for questioning in the homicide as well as for two warrants, Sheriff Martin Pace said.

Cotter is on parole for two counts of possession of methamphetamine, according to Mississippi Department of Corrections records.

She was also wanted after not showing up for court after indictment by a Warren County grand jury.

“The indictment was for possession and sale of a controlled substance,” Pace said.

Authorities said both women were at Battlefield Inn, 4137 N. Frontage Road, when 34-year-old Richard “Richy” May Jr. was shot and killed. May worked for the county road department as a pilot on the Kings Point Ferry.

Police have charged Jimmy Dale Reid with murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in the shooting. Reid was arrested about four hours after the shooting in the wood line of an area between the motel and Vicksburg National Military Park. He had been shot in the arm, though it was still unclear Friday who shot him. Municipal Judge Toni Terrett declined to set bail for Reid and he is being held in the Warren County Jail.

Police are still awaiting results from the Mississippi Crime Lab of analysis of evidence collected at the motel following the shooting.

Crystal methamphetamine and weapons were seized in both rooms, Vicksburg Police Chief Walter Armstrong said.

Meth was also found when a Vicksburg man accused of a Sept. 12 killing was arrested at a home on Redhawk Road, Pace said. Investigators were working Friday to determine if the two killings were related.

Tamares Ledell Dillon, 35, admitted in justice court Monday that he shot and killed 42-year-old Joseph Acuff, but Dillon said it was an act of self-defense.

Dillon was working on a Jeep with Steven Paul Breedlove, 30, at about 3:30 p.m. last Saturday when Acuff arrived. Dillion and Acuff immediately began arguing, and the altercation led to the shooting, Pace said.

Dillon was arrested later that day at the home of Shelly T. Walker. Walker was charged with a probation violation, possession of a firearm after felony conviction and possession with intent to distribute meth.

Jeffery Eatmon, 35, 2816 Drummond St., was in the home with Walker and Dillon when the drugs and guns were found and was charged with possession of meth and possession of a firearm after felony conviction.

Tuesday, Breedlove and Raja Tedder were arrested and charged with accessory after the fact to second-degree murder. Breedlove took no action to render aid or call authorities after the shooting, and Tedder gave Dillon a ride, Pace has said.
