Southern U. blows past Jackson State

Southern University put Jackson State behind early and never let the Tigers catch up.
Austin Howard was 21-of-32 passing for 395 yards and a touchdown, and he added two more scores on the ground as Southern beat Jackson State 50-31 Saturday night in Baton Rouge.
Lenard Tillery ran for two touchdowns in the first half as Southern (2-1, 2-0 Southwestern Athletic Conference) built a 29-7 lead at halftime. Jackson State (0-3, 0-1) cut it to 12 points, 36-24, on Ryan Deising’s 30-yard field goal late in the third quarter, but never got closer than that.
JSU quarterback La Montiez Ivy completed 29 of 53 passes for 357 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran for a score, but was sacked four times and intercepted once.
Southern had 675 yards of total offense.
Mississippi College 42, Belhaven 21
Mississippi College piled up 500 rushing yards and shut out Belhaven (0-3) in the second half to pull away and win Saturday night.
Kyle Smith rushed for 192 yards and a touchdown, and Raymond Cotton had 158 yards and three touchdowns — all in the second half — for the Choctaws (2-1).
Belhaven quarterback Clayton Webb completed 33 of 57 passes for 313 yards and three touchdowns.
Delta State 51, Kentucky Wesleyan 18
Tyler Sullivan threw three touchdown passes, D’Juan Bellaire ran for three touchdowns, and Delta State (3-0) routed Kentucky Wesleyan (0-3).
Sullivan completed 15 of 23 passes for 237 yards. Two of his touchdowns came in the first quarter, when Delta State jumped out to a 27-6 lead.
Delta State’s defense held Kentucky Wesleyan to 8 rushing yards and forced five turnovers.
Chicago 31, Millsaps 27
Moser Burke had 348 yards on 17-of-23 passing, and Chicago (2-0) held off Millsaps.
Ty Proctor ran for two touchdowns for Millsaps (1-2), including a 35-yarder with 3:38 remaining that cut a 10-point deficit to 31-27. Chicago got the ball on the ensuing kickoff and picked up four first downs to run out the clock.
