As another workweek begins, let’s take a moment to reflect upon the good happenings from the week recently ended.

• Shoppers made their way in droves Saturday to The Outlets at Vicksburg for the Eighth Annual Shopping Extravaganza. The event benefitted Junior Auxiliary of Vicksburg.

While final numbers aren’t in, it seems likely the group will top its fundraising goal of $15,000. Congratulations to all who participated.

• Congratulations go to St. Aloysius 2015 Homecoming Queen Shelby Bottin, who was crowned Friday night by 2014 Queen Taylor Lee. Senior Honor Maids were Grace Burnett, Sara Katherine McDaniel, Elizabeth Counts and Lyndsey Cowart. Freshman Maids were Elise Piazza and Claire Jamison. Sophomore Maids were Anne Stewart Piazza and Alexandra Tzotzolas. Junior Maids were Olivia Curtis and Annabeth Breeden. Senior Maids were Imani Adams, Cass Hudson, Katelyn Brock, Samantha Kelly, Christie Johnson, Breyanna Burks, Addison Mathis, Caroline Puckett, Catherine Smith, Carly Grace Stribling and Katie Martin. Congratulations to all.

• Hats go off to Warren County native James Gerache, who was inducted recently into the Alpha Lambda Sigma Chamber of Phi Theta Kappa at Holmes Community College.

• The 2015 United Way campaign kicked off with, well, flying colors recently, earning more than $19,000 in the first of what is hoped will become the annual True Color Run. Best of luck to Michele Connelley and others at the United Way of West Central Mississippi as they work to meet and exceed the agency’s fundraising goal of $1,235,000. When United Way comes calling, funds you donate stay in the community and benefit a multitude of agencies doing good right here at home.

• Way to go, Toni Miles, daughter of Terry and Patti Miles of Port Gibson and Cynthia Butler of Vicksburg, who has been promoted to 5:30 p.m. Anchor at WXXV 25 News, the NBC and FOX affiliate in Gulfport, Mississippi.

She has worked as assignment editor at the station for the past two years, a position she will continue to maintain.

Miles is a graduate of Vicksburg High School and did two internships as a writer at The Vicksburg Post while in school.
