Law enforcement agencies have given the all clear, removing Warren Central High School from lockdown.

After a school official had heard a “loud noise” that resembled a gun shot, the school was put on lockdown as a precautionary measure shortly before 11:30 a.m. The school was taken off lockdown around 12:30 p.m.

Vicksburg Warren School District Superintendent Chad Shealy confirmed the school was on a precautionary lockdown.

“There was a report from our campus police of what sounded like one gunshot near the rear of campus,” he said. “This has not been confirmed.”

The Warren County Sheriff’s Office set up a command post and searched the school room by room. The Emergency Management Agency and Vicksburg Fire Department also responded.

“Multiple units of law enforcement are ensuring the campus is safe,” Shealy said. “There are no indications that anything has happened on campus.”

Access to the property was blocked by law enforcement vehicles.

During the lockdown, The Vicksburg Post communicated with students who were locked in place in their classrooms while deputies carried out the search.

Nearby Beechwood Elementary School and the Vicksburg Warren branch of Hinds Community College were also on lockdown as a precautionary measure.

The cause of the “loud noise” has not been made available, but crews with Entergy were also on scene surveying nearby transformers and electrical systems.
