Jo Thompson Haney

PONTOTOC — Jo Thompson Haney, age 74, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2015, at Baptist Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas.
She was born Aug. 19, 1941, to Allen B. Thompson and Margie Faulks Thompson in Columbia, Louisiana. She graduated from H.V. Cooper High School in Vicksburg and the University of Mississippi, where she met her husband, Billy Haney.
Jo obtained her master’s degree and specialist’s degree in elementary education, and taught school at Eden Park Elementary School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Westminster Elementary School, South Pontotoc Attendance Center and Greenville Public Schools.
In 1998, she was awarded the Administrator of the Year Award from the Mississippi Department of Education. She taught Red Cross swimming lessons for over 25 years as well as private lessons.
Her hobbies were attending sporting events where her grandchildren were participating, antiques, working auctions for several companies, and fishing, reading and walking.
A memorial service was Friday, October 16, 2015 at the First Presbyterian Church in Greenville. The funeral service is 3 p.m. Saturday, October 17, 2015, at Browning Funeral Home Chapel in Pontotoc with Dr. Ken Hester officiating. Burial will follow at Pontotoc City Cemetery. Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her husband, Billy Haney of Quitman, Arkansas; her two daughters, Rebecca Lynn Haney Elmore and husband Jimmy Elmore of Houston, Texas, and Anna Marie Haney Bianchi and husband Dr. Robert Bianchi of Tampa, Florida; one brother, Hugh Alfred Thompson; and two grandchildren, Anna Blair Elmore and William Douglas Elmore.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Allen B. Thompson and Margie Faulks Thompson.
Pallbearers will be Ray Haney, Boyd Haney, Bryan Thompson, Jimmy Wilder, Johnny Wilder and Butch Huey.
Visitation is from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
