Funeral services for Josie B “Big Mama” Jackson will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, 2015, at the Vicksburg Auditorium with the Rev. Michael Wesley officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of W. H. Jefferson Funeral Home.
Visitation is Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Jackson died Sunday, Oct. 25, 2015, at Merit Health River Region Medical Center. She was 85.
She was a homemaker and was a member of the Jackson Street M. B. Church, where she was a member of the Usher Board.
She was preceded in death by her father, Charlie Smith; mother, Estella Walker; husband, James Jackson Sr.; daughter, Stella Jackson Burns; brother Granville Lacey Jr.; sisters, Ernestine Fisher Carter; and a grandson, Roy Brown.
Survivors include three sons, Willie Archie Smith of Aurora, Illinois, James Jackson Jr. of Vicksburg and Charlie Lee Jackson of Texarkana Texas; five daughters, Janie B. Jackson Thomas of Vicksburg, Gertrude Jackson Williams of Vicksburg, Ora Jackson Carson of Vicksburg, Annie Marie Jackson Jordan of Kingston, North Carolina, and Linda Faye Jackson of Vicksburg; brother, Len Williams Sr. of Vicksburg; 17 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
