County lifts burn ban after rainstorm

The countywide burn ban in effect in Warren County since Oct. 12 has been lifted, Warren County Emergency Management director John Elfer said.
“The governor pulled the statewide burn ban this afternoon and we pulled ours,” he said.
Elfer said the high weekend rainfall totals that hit the county as a low pressure area crossed the state delivered enough moisture to remedy the dry conditions that affected the state since the summer and forced the ban.
Rain from weather system, which included moisture from Hurricane Patricia, began falling in the Vicksburg/Warren County area late Saturday afternoon and continued until early Tuesday, with rainfall totals for the three days exceeding five inches. More rain is predicted for the weekend, with rainfall totals possibly reaching about two inches.
“People who have trash they want to burn outside can go ahead and do it,” Elfer said. “But they still need to be careful when they burn. Although it’s not as dry and we’ve had some rain, problems can still occur.”
