Do you like Common Core? Do you hate Common Core? Are you just interested in learning more about what exactly Common Core is?

The Warren County Republican Executive Committee is hosting a town hall meeting Monday from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on the second floor of the Warren County Courthouse.

“The committee was in session last month, and we decided to deal with some social issues in the community,” Freddie Abraham said. “This is not just a community issue, it’s really a nationwide issue if the state assumes that they’re going to go along with Common Core.”

Abraham said the moderator would be Eric Biedenharn, Warren County Republican Executive Committee president.

“The topic of discussion is going to be Common Core, and its affect on the educational system, either pro or con,” he said. “We’re not going to decide which one it is, we’re just going to talk about it from a number of situations.”

All public is invited to attend, Abraham said.

“The public is invited to hear what’s going on, and we’re going to have Senator Briggs Hopson and our two representatives from Warren County, Alex Monsour and Oscar Denton,” he said. “There will be some comments and opinions from retired teachers who have taught in Warren County in the public school system.”

Abraham said purpose of the town hall is to inform people of what it is that they can do to deal with Common Core.

Abraham said he planned to invite the superintendent, the school board and Mississippi director of education.

“If the public wants a second meeting, which I think we’ll determine that when we’re there, we will certainly do that,” he said. “What can be done, if anything? This is really going to be informational.”
