Man faces auto theft, eluding charges

A Vicksburg man was in the Warren County Jail in lieu of $63,000 bail charged Friday with auto theft and felony eluding following his arrest Thursday night following a brief car chase, Vicksburg police Capt. Sandra Williams said.
She said James Gibbs III, 43, 1501 1/2 Military Ave., ran a stop sign at the intersection of Confederate Avenue and North Frontage Road about 9:35 p.m. Thursday and refused to stop after a police officer put on his lights and siren, leading to the chase.
While the pursuit was underway, a man called 911 about 9:44 p.m. saying his GMC Sierra pickup containing an assault rifle had been stolen from the parking lot at F&G, 1707 Washington St. The pursuit ended when truck driven by Gibbs struck a parked vehicle in the 3700 block of Parkview Street, heavily damaging both vehicles. After the arrest, Gibbs said he sold the assault rifle.
The case remains under investigation.
Woman accused of writing bad checks
A Hermanville woman is charged with three counts of false pretense after her arrest Thursday by Claiborne County sheriff’s deputies on a Vicksburg police warrant, Vicksburg police Capt. Sandra Williams said.
Shenice Williams, 24, 22077 Mississippi 18, is accused of writing $2,000 in checks on a closed account at River Hills Bank on Jan. 30. She was released on $2,500 bond.
Williams said an investigation into the charges indicated Williams lived in Hermanville, adding a copy of the warrant was sent to Claiborne County, and deputies arrested her. She was brought to Vicksburg Friday afternoon.
Vicksburg man faces drug charges
A Vicksburg man faces drug charges after cocaine was found in his car after a traffic stop, Vicksburg police Capt. Sandra Williams said.
She said Joseph Brown, 31, 1414 First East St., was stopped by officer Richard Jobe in the 800 block of Howard Street for having an expired car tag and making an improper turn. The cocaine was found during search after the stop. He was released on $2,500 bond.
Trailer with ATV missing from yard
An all-terrain vehicle and a trailer were missing Friday following a theft reported in Warren County.
At 7:24 a.m. Friday, a 14-foot black trailer valued at $1,200 and a 2012 green Polaris ATV with a front and back rack valued at $7,900 was reported stolen from the 5300 block of Jeff Davis Road, according to Warren County sheriff’s records.
