A Warren County man accused of dealing with stolen property was free on a $5,000 bond Tuesday.
Matthew Wells, 41, 103 Impala Drive, was arrested Sunday and charged with receiving stolen property, according to Warren County Jail records.
Sherriff Martin Pace received information Sunday that two individuals were attempting to sell a 4-wheeler that fit the description of one reported stolen last week.
Pace and detective Stacy Rollinson observed the men attempting to sell the all-terrain vehicle just off of Grange Hall Road.
The 4-wheeler was confirmed to be the same one stolen last week on Jeff Davis Road.
When the men were approached, they took off. Pace and Rollinson were able to stop a gold Chevy Tahoe and take Wells into custody at the scene.
Simultaneously, the second suspect identified as Johnny Erwin, 46, sped off on the 4-wheeler and then ditched it on Stillwater Drive before running into a wooded area.
After several hours of searching with extra units, two game wardens and a K9 unit, Erwin could not be located.
A warrant has been issued for Erwin for receiving stolen property.
Anyone with information is encouraged to call Central Mississippi Crime Stoppers at 601-355-8477, Pace said. Callers remain anonymous and do not have to testify in court.
Crime stoppers will pay a cash reward for information leading to the arrest of a felony suspect.
