From washing dishes to taking out the trash to helping wait tables, the men at the Church of the Holy Trinity do whatever is needed for the annual turkey dinner, which is scheduled to run from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday in McInnis Parish Hall, 900 South St.

Even though the event is a fundraiser sponsored by the Episcopal Church Women, the men have historically helped out, church member Dick Ferguson said.

In addition to their cleaning and serving roles, the men will also carve the turkeys and work in the takeout lines.

None described their involvement with the turkey dinner as a chore, but more of a day spent with friends.

“It’s all fun and togetherness,” church member Lee Davis Thames said, and added the enjoyment of the day was not just limited to the camaraderie of the men.

“Part of the fun is seeing all your friends from the community,” he said.

In recounting the enjoyable times the men have shared together, they also said there were moments that had them holding their breath.

“It used to be almost every year the pilot would go out. We have got so much stuff going,” church member Jim Peay said, but thanks to some electrical assistance, the situation is now under control.

Along with the turkey dinner, the church will also hold a bake sale.

There are some items that go fast, Thames said, but the Rev. Beth Palmer has already given instructions that there would be no pre-sales.

“We have a rule that no one can buy a cake until 11 a.m.,” Thames said.

The bake sale will have frozen casseroles and soups for sale along with the many desserts, turkey dinner chairman Logan Peay said.

The cost of the dinner is $10 and will include turkey, green beans, dressing, cranberry salad, a roll and a choice of pecan pie, pumpkin pie or chocolate cake.
