Harris Dickson Shortle

Harris Dickson Shortle, age 76, died Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2015, at Merit Health River Region Medical Center.
He was born in Vicksburg and was reared in Mississippi and Louisiana.
He was a cum laude graduate of Sewanee Military Academy at Sewanee, Tennessee, a member of the class of 1960 at the United States Military Academy, West Point, New York, and a graduate of the Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
He was a U. S. Marine and served in Vietnam. He received the Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and was a Purple Heart recipient. He worked as a construction project engineer and general contractor, and was the author of “Duplicate” and “The Duke of Zardano,” both published in 2009.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Harra Dickson Windsor; his parents, Robert and Elizabeth Shortle; and grandparents, Harris and Madeleine Metcal.
He is survived by his grandchildren, Harris Dickson Windsor and Walter A. Windsor, of Pine Bluff, Arkansas; his son-in-law, the Rev. Van Windsor of Pine Bluff; his sister, Catherine Ann Hirn (Joseph) of Portsmouth, Virginia; his beloved aunt, Madeleine Bell; and cousins Hunter & Leine.
Graveside services are 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2015, at Cedar Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Van Windsor officiating.
Visitation will be from noon until the hour of the service at Glenwood Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Harris Dickson Windsor, and Walter A. Windsor.
