JV basketball report
(B) Warren Central 49, Vicksburg 26 – Chris Greene scored 14 points to lead Warren Central’s ninth-grade team past Vicksburg High.
(B) Porters Chapel 35, Mt. Salus 22 – Jake Arias and Luke Yocum scored seven points apiece as Porters Chapel Academy’s boys’ junior varsity team improved to 7-1 with a win over Mt. Salus. Arias also had four rebounds, while Eli Sykes finished with seven rebounds and three blocked shots.
(G) Porters Chapel 38, Mt. Salus 3 – Carlye Smith scored eight points, Madison Wilkerson added seven and Kaylee Hinson as PCA’s girls’ junior varsity team routed Mt. Salus. PCA (3-4) held Mt. Salus scoreless until the third quarter.
Adult basketball league
Registration for the City of Vicksburg’s adult men’s and women’s basketball league will continue through Dec. 28. Registration packets can be picked up at the Jackson Street Community Center or the Parks and Recreation offices at 100 Army-Navy Drive. Games will begin Jan. 11.
The registration fee is $125 per team, plus a $10 fee for non-city residents. Team fees will not exceed $175. There will be a mandatory coaches meeting Dec. 30 at 6:30 p.m. at the Parks and Recreation office. For more information, call parks and recreation director Joseph Graves at 601-634-4514.
River City Showcase
Triumph Ministries will host the inaugural River City Showcase basketball tournament April 9, 2016 at Vicksburg High School. The event will feature senior players from more than 20 area high schools. For more information, visit TMIVicksburg.weebly.com.
Fall tennis program
The City of Vicksburg’s youth fall tennis program is under way at the Halls Ferry Park courts. The program will run Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, from 5 to 6 p.m., and is free. For more information, call Rick Shields at 601-618-4757.
MSU baseball camps
Registration is now open for the Mississippi State Winter Baseball Camps, a series of six camps scheduled for January in Starkville. The first two sessions are scheduled for Jan. 9 and 10 and are for players in grades 1-8. Sessions three and four, set for Jan. 16 and 17, are for high school players. Session five (Jan. 22-23) and session six (Jan. 23-24) are father-son camps for children in grades 1-6. The camps will be directed by Mississippi State coach John Cohen and his staff, and will be held at the Palmeiro Center indoor facility and Dudy Noble Field. The cost of each session is $125, or $225 for the two-session set for sessions 1-4. The cost of sessions five and six is $99 per child, or $175 for a father and two sons.
