The incident began Wednesday evening about 7 p.m. as an older woman was walking for exercise along Monroe Street and turned left onto Main Street headed toward Washington Street and felt like she was being followed, Williams said. She crossed the street near the corner of Main and Washington streets to get a look at who was behind her and as she turned her head to look the man was right on her, Williams said.

“He pulled a large caliber weapon on her and demanded she get in the bushes,” Williams said.

As a vehicle was driving by, the woman began to scream and wave her arms, Williams said. The driver stopped the vehicle and told the woman to get in the car, but she refused and asked the driver to instead follow the man who was fleeing on foot, Williams said.

The driver then proceeded to follow the man to Monroe Street where his vehicle was parked and called 911 as she drove, Williams said. Once the man got in his vehicle, he drove toward Clay Street with the witness following and directing law enforcement where they were headed, Williams said.

“He was pulled over and taken into custody in a parking lot on the corner of Mission 66 and Clay Street,” Williams said. “It was determined McGee was on duty as a Pizza Hut delivery driver during the time of the incident.” Williams said.

No one was injured.

“It was a very harrowing experience for the victim,” Williams said. “I’m very appreciative to the passerby that stopped to help the victim. Without the help of the witness the suspect could have gotten away.”

Williams said Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace was also on scene.

“Sheriff Pace came down to check on victim and provide assistance,” Williams said.

McGee will have his initial appearance in court Friday at 9 a.m.

“I’m pleased with the work of the patrol officers and the investigators,” Williams said.
