University of Mississippi senior Morgan Elizabeth Teller of Vicksburg was among 202 students inducted into the UM chapter of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society during a Nov. 1 ceremony at the Gertrude C. Ford Center for the Performing Arts.
Teller, the daughter of Stacy and Blake Teller, is set to graduate in May 2016. She is a graduate of St. Aloysius High School, a member of the Class of 2012.
“It is a great honor at the university and it is nice to be recognized for the hard work I’ve put in to my academics,” said Teller.
Teller is a broadcast journalism major, and she is involved with Gamma Beta Phi Honor Society, Chancellor’s leadership class, Delta Delta Delta sorority and is on the Chancellor’s & Dean’s lists.
Teller gives credit to her family for her success in college.
“I’ve always been a motivated student thanks to my parents for believing in me and pushing me to always do my best,” Teller said.
After college, Teller aspires to get a job in communications or marketing. She plans to move to Nashville.
When asked what the key to being a successful student in college was, Teller said, “As a college student, learning how to manage your time is key to staying focused as a student. Also, I think keeping myself busy helps me to stay driven and on top of things.”
Membership in Phi Kappa Phi is based on a student’s sound character as well as their academic standing. Juniors must have completed 72 credit hours and rank in the top 7.5 percent of their class, while seniors and graduate students must rank in the top 10 percent of their class.
Phi Kappa Phi is the nation’s oldest, largest and most selective honor society for all academic disciplines.
The honor society celebrated 50 years on the UM campus in 2009, and was founded at the University of Maine in 1897.
