The third season of the VH1 series “Hit the Floor” is set to air at 8 p.m. Jan. 18, and as one of the leading characters on the show, hometown sweetheart Katherine Bailess, is excited.

“I think the writing this year blows season 1 and 2 out of the water,” offering even more excitement, more drama and more scandals, Bailess said.

“Hit the Floor” debuted in 2013, and the show highlights the alluring and dramatic life of a pro basketball team, the Los Angeles Devils, and the team’s premiere dance squad, The Devil Girls. Bailess plays Kyle Hart, one of the Devil Girls.

Bailess’ sights have always been set on becoming a performer, and after graduating from St. Aloysius High School she moved to New York City to attend Marymount Manhattan College for dance and musical theater.

While living in the Big Apple, her ambitions grew, and she wound up studying at the William Esper Studio, which is an internationally recognized school for acting.

Before landing the role of Kyle on the popular VH1 series, Bailess has held reoccurring roles on “Gilmore Girls,” “One Tree Hill,” and she appeared in the film “Bring It On Again.”

Playing Kyle Hart, a character that is described as “sex on legs,” Bailess does not just get to play the role of an unabashed southern woman, she also gets to revive her dance training in what she calls the “hardest job” she has ever had.

“You think acting is enough, but when you are dancing and acting it is like having a double job. Some days it is even hard to fit in dance rehearsals when I am acting.”

Bailess said her producers try to work with the actors who are both dancing and acting, but there are times she has had to just endure the inordinate amount of work.

For example, after getting bronchitis from rehearsing in a field with chilly temperatures until four in the morning, she said she had called in sick for a subsequent rehearsal, because she had fever but was told she had to be there and learn the dance.

Though grueling at times, Bailess said the opportunity to perform on “Hit the Floor” has definitely helped her learn a lot about herself, and it has also helped her grow as a dancer.

“When you are in high school you think ‘I am doing the steps’ but then there is this thing that is called performing and you can’t just do the steps. It is something that comes from inside. Dancing to me is acting without any words, and it is also being in tune with your soul and being vulnerable. I feel very, very blessed to do dance again because I thought that I was done. There is not that many opportunities out there as an actress to do this much dancing. It is amazing that I get to use all my talents.”

Bailess said for those wanting to catch up on the previous episodes of the VH1 series, “Hit the Floor” marathons will aired at noon Jan. 16 with all 10 episodes of season 1 and will resume on Jan. 17 with the 12 episodes of season 2.

Shows can also be viewed for free on Vh1.com and the @vh1app.

In addition, to the January release of “Hit the Floor’s” third season, Bailess said she is also thrilled to announce a video she is featured in has been chosen as one of the top three choices for the Doritos Super Bowl Commercial competition.

The winning team will split one million dollars.
