Sixteen more vehicles were vandalized in another malicious mischief crime bender early Saturday morning in Vicksburg.

Reports came in from 1:30 to 5 a.m. Saturday morning from Azalea Lane, Lightcap Boulevard, Bering Street, Enchanted Drive, Starlight Drive, with one on Elizabeth Circle, which is on the other side of town, Vicksburg police Capt. Sandra Williams said.

Some residences had more than one vehicle damaged in the pellet gun shooting spree, she said.

Williams sent two investigators to look into the incidents. She said a witness gave a description of a car in the area that was stopped by officers and the occupants were questioned before being released.

“The investigation is ongoing,” Williams said.

A little over a week ago, two nights of malicious mischief with pellet guns and vehicle windows were reported with a total of 18 complaints.

Windows of vehicles parked on Short, Oak, Laurel and Drummond streets in Vicksburg appeared to have been shot out by a pellet gun the night of Tuesday, Jan. 5, Williams said. The night of Wednesday, Jan. 6 more windows were busted on Ethel Street, Arcadia Place and Parkside and Long Meadow drives, including two reports at businesses on South Frontage Road, Williams said.

“It is a possibility that it’s related or it could be a copy cat,” Williams said. “We need more time to investigate.”

This type of malicious mischief became common this summer in Vicksburg and Warren County. Vicksburg Police received 37 reports of windows shot out of vehicles and businesses with a BB gun between July 12 and July 15. Then in August a string of vandalism occurred that damaged more than 50 vehicles in Warren County.

“We encourage anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers,” Williams said.
