Mary Elizabeth Smith died Sunday, Jan. 17, 2016, at Promise Hospital. She was 88.

Miss Smith was born March 1, 1927, in Lincoln County to William Anderson “Ance” Smith III and Effie Mae Terrell. She was retired from South Central Bell Telephone Co. and was a member of the Career Homemakers Club. Her favorite activities included playing softball in her younger years, bowling, working with ceramics and trying new recipes.

She was a member of Gibson Memorial United Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher, member of the choir and a member of the Clark and Kings Bible classes.

She is survived by cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Mitchell Cochran officiating. A graveside service will be at 3 p.m. at the Bogue Chitto Cemetery in Bogue Chitto

Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Brian Westbrook, Walter Westbrook, Mark Davis, Christopher Davis, Jonathan Davis and Gary Brown.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Samuel Pierce, Dr. Paul Pierce IV, John O’Bannon, Tom Pharr, the Career Homemakers Club and the Clark and Kings Bible Class.
