Weather shuffles local sports schedule

Bad weather and hazardous road conditions across Mississippi led to a string of canceled and postponed games for Warren County’s high school sports teams.
Two soccer games and two basketball games this weekend — three Friday and one Saturday — have been moved. Here is the list of affected games
• Warren Central’s varsity basketball game Friday at Greenville has been postponed and tentatively rescheduled to Saturday, Jan. 30. Concerns about traveling on icy roads in the Delta forced the moved.
• A boys soccer game between Porters Chapel and St. Aloysius was postponed for the second straight day because of bad weather and poor field conditions. No makeup date has been set, but since it is a district game for both teams it must be rescheduled.
• The girls and boys varsity soccer games between Warren Central and Ridgeland have been canceled. Because the MHSAA playoffs begin on Tuesday, they will not be rescheduled.
Warren Central will go on the road to play Tupelo in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs Tuesday night. The girls’ team will play Tupelo at 5 p.m., and the boys at 6:30.
• St. Aloysius’ home basketball games against Riverfield Academy on Saturday afternoon were postponed until Thursday at 6 p.m.
Friday’s basketball games between Vicksburg High and Lanier, and St. Aloysius and Central Hinds — both of which will take place in Vicksburg — have not been affected and will tip off at their usual 6 p.m. start time.
The Red Carpet Basketball Classic, scheduled for Saturday at Warren Central, has not been affected. The opponent for Warren Central’s boys’ team, O’Bannon, is from Greenville but Red Carpet Bowl committee member Travis Wayne Vance said its coaches had confirmed they will be able to travel on Saturday.
The Red Carpet Classic begins at 10 a.m. with a girls-boys doubleheader between Porters Chapel Academy and Florence’s Discovery Christian School. Vicksburg High and Northwest Rankin will play at 1 and 2:30 p.m., followed by a girls’ game between Warren Central and Provine at 4.
Warren Central and O’Bannon’s boys’ teams will play the final game at 5:30 p.m.
