The final score of Warren Central’s game against Provine pretty much told the story of the game.

It was close throughout, with five ties and four lead changes. The Lady Vikes were on the right side of the last one and won 43-42 in the Red Carpet Classic Saturday afternoon.

T.T. Sims scored a team-high 17 points and Cocoa Fultz put up another 12 points with eight rebounds and three steals to lead Warren Central (15-6).

The fourth quarter saw the majority of the game’s lead changes. Fultz hit a 3-pointer to go up 41-38, followed by a floater from Sims for their final score of the game.

“When we took the lead we were worried about extending the lead,” Fultz said. “I think we wanted to extend it more so it wouldn’t be a close game. We didn’t want it to be a dog fight.”

Johvon Crowell gave the Lady Rams a 33-32 lead at the start of the fourth quarter. On their next possession, she was fouled behind the arc and missed the opportunity to extend their lead to five. Jakia Harper hit a 3-pointer to tie the game at 41 with 2:30 remaining.

Harper and Crowell recorded 19 and 18 points, respectively.

In the final seconds, Te’Asia Sims threw a lead pass to Fultz on the baseline, but Fultz stopped running after the ball to cause a turnover.

“I thought I should’ve kept going for that pass, but me not knowing where I was on the court, it was my fault,” Fultz said. “She made a good pass and I think that if I would’ve got that pass and made that shot, the game would’nthave been that close.”

With a chance for another tie or potentially to draw a three-point play, Provine drove in the lane but the presence of Amber Gaston in the post saved the game as she affected the shot.

Gaston grabbed seven rebounds and rejected six shots.

“Amber rescues me so much,” Fultz said. “If I don’t get a rebound, Amber’s always there. The putbacks, Amber’s always there. We have confidence in her and we always know she’s there.”

(B) Warren Central 74, O’Bannon 38

Warren Central (9-11) never trailed against O’Bannon as it wrapped up the Red Carpet Basketball Classic with a win on its home court.

The Vikings got off to a 15-0 lead in the opening minutes of the game before the Green Wave’s Jeremy Morris stopped the bleeding.

Shaun Walton, JaQuan Woods, Chavis Smith and Travonte Miller all scored in double figures, going for 16, 14, 11 and 10 points respectively.

“We’ve been working on our press a little bit and I think that helped out a lot. We talked about focus and intensity so much I think that helped us tonight,” Warren Central coach Bruce Robinson said.

O’Bannon only scored nine points in the first quarter compared to Warren Central’s 26. Smith, Walton, Miller, Woods and Kevin Virges each contributed at least three points to begin the dismantling.

“Some of the guys have been struggling offensively shooting the ball that we’ll end up with a little more confidence. Especially heading into the game on Tuesday against Murrah. We got to work a little bit harder on our defense also,” Robinson said.
