Coin enthusiasts, collectors and families looking for an interesting weekend outing are invited to the Vicksburg Coin Club’s 91st triannual coin show Saturday.

Local and regional dealers are participating in the show and will be displaying and selling a wide-ranging inventory of coins, currency and medals. Tokens, jewelry, and other related items will also be available for sale.

“Of course we are looking for anyone who collects or has a general interest in coins to come, but we are also trying to spark an interest in children enthusiasm for coins,” said Stacy Cranston, Vicksburg Coin Club member and event coordinator.

The first 20 young numismatists, or coin collectors, visiting the show will receive a $10 gift certificate to purchase coins at the show.

“Collecting coins is an old man’s game,” Cranston said. “But this is a great opportunity to educate children and get them excited about coin collecting.”

The event will showcase coins and currency from near and abroad.

“We’ll showcase primarily coins, but with some other currency as well,” she said. “90 to 95 percent of the of the coins displayed will be American, but there will be foreign currency too.”

The Vicksburg Coin Club, a non-profit organization, is in their 31st year, with three shows per year for the past 30 years, this being their 91st show. “It’s safe to say that we’ve been doing this for a while,” Cranston said.

The event will take place Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Riverwalk Casino.

“We understand that some people, especially families, might be hesitant to attend, since it’s at a casino, but the event is located to where you don’t have to go near the gaming floor to get there,” Cranston said.

There is no charge for admission into the event and parking is free.
