Like it or not, the clock is ticking

I can hardly believe there is only one day left in January 2016. It seems like yesterday I was decorating the house for Christmas. Truth be told, it is not only this month, but it seems that as I have gotten older, time speeds by like a silver bullet. It is unstoppable even when I want the good times to linger.
When I was younger, time did not seem to move at such a fast pace. In fact, I remember thinking the hands on the clock must be stuck, especially when waiting for Santa, summer vacation or some other special occasion.
Not so now, hours tick by without me even realizing the sun has gone down.
Before working part time at The Vicksburg Post, occasionally there were days that I could have enjoyed more hours in the day. Now, with this paying job consuming much of my weekdays, I know I could use more hours in the day to accomplish those activities I used to get done and enjoyed doing.
For instance, time-wise, it was easier for me to workout at the gym four to six days a week, but I cannot give that much time to exercise now. I struggle to get there once a month. In fact, over the past five years I have had less time for cleaning the house, doing laundry and shopping on a weekly basis for groceries.
Now I find myself dashing into the store looking to grab something quick and easy to prepare. Needless to say, Stouffer’s meals have become a mainstay for dinner. I am not knocking the prepared food business, but sadly, my youngest was amazed this week when I cooked “homemade” meatloaf.
And, just so you know, with not as many hours in the day to maintain my stay-at-home-mom schedule, I have had to eat some crow. I used to tell my oldest daughter, who has two little ones and a full-time job, that she just has to make exercising part of her day.
I am quite sure she is reveling in the fact that I now know how hard it is to get it all done in a day, and I do not even have babies!
OK, She gets the last laugh, but it does not change the fact that I still long to do all that I used to do in addition to all my new endeavors.
People talk about prioritizing, and that probably would be an excellent avenue for me to explore. Honestly, that sounds as if one is asking, “Would you rather have a designer dress or designer hand bag?” Well heck, I want them both!
Making choices is not easy, especially when the clock is ticking.
I want to accomplish it all, but I have to realize there are going to be times that it is absolutely not going to happen.
No matter how you look at it, 24 hours, 1,440 minutes or 86,400 seconds, it is all I am going to get in one day.
So whether I like it or not, decisions will have to be made, and hopefully my results will be reflective of what is most important. And is it really going to matter?
