Richard E. Dent

Mr. Richard E. Dent died Thursday, Jan. 28, 2016, at G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery V.A. Medical Center in Jackson. He was 88.
Mr. Dent was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict serving on the USS Constellation. He began his career with the Mississippi Game and Fish Commission in 1969 and was promoted to District Supervisor, which covered Warren, Issaquena, Sharkey, Washington and Claiborne counties. He was recognized Outstanding Warden Southeastern U.S. by receiving the Ted Slone Memorial Award in 1972. Upon retiring Mr. Dent operated Dents Fish Camp on Lake Albemarle until closing in 2005. He was an avid outdoorsman.
Mr. Dent is survived by a son, John Dent of Valley Park; a daughter, Donna Dent of Austin, Texas; a brother, Johnny M. Dent of Columbia, S.C.; three grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Monday, Feb. 1, 2016, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Glenwood Funeral Home with services at 11 a.m. at Glenwood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Roger Cresswell officiating. Burial will follow at Green Lawn Gardens Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Danny McLendon, Doyle Lee, Phillip Dent, J.O. Smith III, David Ledlow and Ryan Newman. Honorary pallbearers will be Don Jackson and Tom Boatler.
Instead of flowers, the family request that donations be made to Mississippi Wildlife Fisheries and Parks Foundation.
