Individuals and company officials wanting to start a business in the city of Vicksburg now have access to a publication that can help them get the information they need on city ordinances and state laws to get their operations up and running.
The city has published a “Start-up Business Guide” brochure that will be available at the Mayor’s office on the third floor the Vicksburg City Hall on Walnut Street.
“We haven’t had any kind of publication to help people wanting to open businesses that can provide the information they need to get started,” Mayor George Flaggs Jr. said.
Aimed at helping local entrepreneurs and people interested in beginning a business, the brochure provides information on state agencies and private companies that can help someone with information on the process of starting a business, and the laws and regulations applied to their specific operation.
Included is the telephone number and address of the city’s Community Development Department, which issues business licenses and permits, approves plans for new buildings and renovations, and enforces city building codes, and access numbers for the Mississippi Department of Revenue and the Internal Revenue Service for tax information.
Also featured are phone numbers, websites and/or email addresses for the Vicksburg-Warren Chamber of Commerce, the Small Business Fund of Mississippi, Inc., a state agency, and the U.S. small Business Administration and the Mississippi Secretary of State.
“One of the fastest and most effective ways to grow an economy and community is through the creation of small businesses. The city of Vicksburg is excited to have this brochure available to give people the knowledge they need to start a successful business,” Flaggs said.
