Hit the Bricks this Thursday

Attention shoppers: it’s time to pound the pavement and hit the bricks in downtown Vicksburg. The time has come for the first big downtown shopping extravaganza of the year.
Hit the Bricks and Adjoining Streets will be Thursday, March 3 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in downtown Vicksburg. Most of the fun will be set up along Washington Street with Dylan Moulder supplying the entertainment by playing live, but shops on adjoining streets downtown will also be joining in on the party.
“We will have sales, new spring arrivals and refreshments,” said Holly Claborn, owner of Blush and Bashful Boutique, 619 Crawford St.
Many of the stores in downtown make it a habit to stay open later on Thursdays, but this event brings even more excitement with stores offering refreshments, entertainment in the street and sales going on in the locally owned stores.
Willingham’s, 1305 Washington St., will serve a variety of party foods including the dip they have available for purchase, sales clerk Andrea Newman said. The store is having a “blowout sale” with outside racks 50 percent off and a select section inside that will be 75 percent off for the entire day. She is looking forward to meeting new people and seeing friends.
“We are looking forward to customers galore, people who have never been here as well as our regulars,” Newman said.
Newman said she is hoping for nice weather and that the predicted morning showers make way for a beautiful afternoon.
“We’re hoping for pretty day, and that the rain gets out of the way,” Newman said. “We’re hoping for pretty weather with lots of customers looking for a deal.”
At the Cinnamon Tree, 1322 Washington St., a half-pound of fudge will be given to those who spend more than $100, plus jerseys will be 20 percent off. Owner Karen Ruggles said she would be serving up multiple treats.
“For Hit the Bricks we are going to have cupcakes, marinated chicken, dip and maybe more snacks,” Ruggles said.
Nearly every store will have similar offerings to their customers, Vicksburg Main Street Program executive director Kim Hopkins said. She called the event a customer appreciation day that almost acts like a reunion of sorts.
“Come visit, shop, dine and enjoy yourself. It’s a fun time to come downtown and see everyone,” Hopkins said.
