Albert Squire Sr.

Deacon Albert Squire Sr. died Saturday, March 4, 2016, in his sleep at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Jackson. A Vicksburg native, he was born Nov. 4, 1920.
Squire was a member of the U.S. Army and was a World War II veteran. He was honorably discharged at the rank of sergeant. He married Arnetta Jones and had two children, Albert Jr. and Arnetta Lucile.
He worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Waterways Experiment Station. Squire dedicated more than 30 years to the Waterways beginning as a laborer and moving up to leaderman and management, retiring in 1982.
A student of theology, Squire dedicated his retirement years to his church family and religious convictions, serving as Senior Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent to Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church for 25 plus years. He was also active fraternally, dedicating more than 30 plus years to Prince Hall Masonry. He was bestowed the prestigious thirty-second degree and is also the past Worshipful Master of Broadwater Lodge #55.
Squire is preceded in death by his spouses, Arnetta and Clara, and daughter, Arnetta Lucile. He is survived by his son Albert Jr., grandson, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 15, at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home, 800 Monroe St. A funeral service will follow with interment at Vicksburg National Military Cemetery with full military honors.
