VCC gives back with new event: Mellow Mondays

Two upcoming Mondays are about to get a lot less stressful and a lot more mellow.
The Vicksburg Convention Center in conjunction with VenuWorks of Vicksburg has planned two Mellow Monday events from 5 to 7 p.m. this coming Monday and Monday, May 23 at the convention center, 1600 Mulberry St.
Mellow Monday is a free come-and-go event with music and hor’dourves that is open to the public.
“It’s just a fun thing to do on a Monday because Monday is typically not a fun day,” VCC executive director Annette Kirklin said. “So we’re just trying to put a little twist on a Monday for a change.”
At March’s event there will be a couple cash prizes up for grabs for those willing to play a networking game. A cash bar will be available, and Palmertree Catering will prepare mini muffalettas, steak bites and treats that aren’t typically offered.
“Palmertree’s would like to showcase some of the things that they can do,” Kirklin said.
Musical entertainment for the March Mellow Monday will be by Mark Holdiness, Mark McCann, Tabitha Newton and Kimble Slaton. The band will be set up in the lobby of the convention center.
“Putting this group together is something new, and the music is going to be wonderful,” Kirklin said. “They don’t typically all four play together.”
Maria Signa and Ralph Miller are scheduled to perform at the Mellow Monday in May.
“That’s going to be really cool mellow music,” Kirklin said. “Tabitha and Maria both are phenomenal vocalists.”
Kirklin hopes the weather will cooperate for a comfortable and beautiful evening. The March event will be indoors, but she said if the weather is nice enough in May, the event could be taken outdoors.
“The next one we could be blocking off the street and making it a little street party for a couple hours,” Kirklin said. “We’ll just see how this first one goes, and then we’ll have a couple months to decide what we’re going to do on that.”
This is a brand-new event for the convention center, and if it is well received, Kirklin said the staff of the convention center would like to turn Mellow Monday into an annual event to show gratitude.
“We appreciate the community. We appreciate their support in the many things that we do here, and we appreciate Vicksburg,” Kirklin said, promoting the hashtag #WAY— We Appreciate You.
To continue the ‘M’ trend, she suggested guests at the event complete their March Mellow Monday by getting dinner at Martin’s at Midtown or anywhere in downtown Vicksburg.
“Make it a wonderful evening in Vicksburg,” Kirklin said.
