James R. “Rod” Parker

James R. “Rod” Parker of Vicksburg passed away Saturday, March 19, 2016.  He was 78.

Rod was born in Houma, La., and grew up in East Texas. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps and remained in California to teach school and raise horses. He moved to Vicksburg in 1983.

He is survived by his wife, Linda; brother, Thomas (JoAnn) Parker; brothers-in-law, Landy (Peggy) Teller and Barry Teller; two sons, Landy (Robin) Ligon and David (Suzanne) Ligon; three daughters, Traci Bonfigli, Brynn (David) Morgan, and Lori (Paul) Diliegro, 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Bill Pierce and the staffs of Merit Health River Region Medical Center, Promise Hospital and Camellia Hospice for their kind and generous care during Rod’s illness.

Services will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Southern Cultural Heritage Center and First Presbyterian Church of Vicksburg.
