A child hit by a vehicle Tuesday night, who was in critical condition and on life support Wednesday, has died.

Kennedy Bingham, 1-year-old, died from serious upper body injuries she suffered when a 2004 Ford F150 driven by family friend James O’Neal hit her as he was leaving the house, Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said.

“Nothing changes about the investigation,” Pace said referring to the sheriff’s office investigating the death as an accident.

Bingham was with her mother, Shacorian Harris, at the time of the accident in front of her home at 141 Cumberland Road, Pace said. O’Neal drove up to the house around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday to speak to Harris about carpentry work he was scheduled to do at the home, Pace said.

As O’Neal began to drive away from the residence the child was hit by the vehicle, Pace said. O’Neal was unaware the child had been under the vehicle and stopped when the mother and a neighbor alerted him, Pace said.

The neighbor drove the mother and child to Merit Health River Region Medical Center in a private vehicle, and O’Neal followed them to the hospital, Pace said. Deputies were called to the hospital after the child arrived, Pace said.

The child was air lifted to Blair E. Batson Children’s Hospital at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
