A man accused of stealing a firearm from a pawnshop Tuesday was arrested Wednesday in Claiborne County.
Marino Jennings, 47, was arrested at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Port Gibson and charged with theft of a firearm and felon in possession of a firearm, Vicksburg police Capt. Sandra Williams said.
“A Crime stoppers tip came in that gave his name,” Williams said. “A warrant for his arrest was issued, and we sent investigators to Port Gibson.”
The stolen firearm was from Top Dollar Pawn Shop, 3421 Washington St. The firearm was recovered with the pawnshop’s tag still attached, Williams said. It was originally described as a Glock G22 .22 caliber with the serial number AALZ27, but it was discovered to be a Glock .40 caliber when it was recovered.
Numerous Crimestoppers tips were received giving law enforcement the name of the man in the video surveillance picture released by the Vicksburg Police Department, Williams said.
The firearm was reported stolen from the pawnshop at 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, Williams said. The owner of the pawnshop said a male reached around the counter and took the firearm when she wasn’t looking.
“Theft of a firearm is a felony with a penalty of up to 5 years,” Williams said.
Video surveillance suggested a woman in store was also involved in the theft, she said. The woman has been identified, but no charges have been filed against her as of Wednesday evening.
Jennings is set to have his initial court appearance at 10 a.m. Friday in Vicksburg Municipal Court before Judge Toni Terrett.
