The Old Court House Flea Market will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday on the block around the museum, 1008 Cherry St.

“We’ve got a lot of good vendors coming,” said George “Bubba” Bolm, curator and director at the Old Court House Museum.

All 18 food vendor booths were filled quickly, but plenty of 10×10 sales booths are still available to be reserved for $60. About 100 have been rented so far.

“We cover a lot of ground, a full city block, so there is always available spots,” Bolm said. “We’ll never run out of spots, except on food.”

Some of the food available for purchase will include Italian ice, barbecue and the meat pies from the Christ Episcopal Church tent.

“They’re mighty tasty,” Bolm said of the meat pies.

Custom handmade knives, wooden toys, birdhouses, furniture, jewelry, pottery and photography by Marty Kitrall are some of the items that can be found for sale at the market.

“He’s a great, great photographer,” Bolm said.

Historian Gordon Cotton and undertaker Charles Riles are set to be at the museum’s tent selling the second edition of their book “Funeral Stories of Vicksburg Warren County.”

“It’s a mutual undertaking,” Cotton said.

Bolm is looking forward to a good day with comfortable temperatures.

“It looks like the Lord is going to bless us with good weather,” Bolm said. “It’s suppose to be sunny and in the 80s.”

The Old Court House hosts two flea markets a year as a fundraiser for the museum.

While admission to the market is free, the museum makes money by selling the booths to the vendors.

“The reason we do it is to raise money,” Bolm said. “We’re not dependent on federal or state loans.”

The money will be used for general upkeep of the museum. He said the people of Vicksburg have been very generous, and the flea market has really become a trademark for the city with people visiting year after year.

He said the fall flea market scheduled each October is always bigger, partially because it has been a 33-year tradition. The spring market had to be moved to a different location years ago because of construction work at the museum.

An April flea market only returned to the Old Court House about four years ago.
