VHS track rolls on to North State meet

Running in their second meet of the week didn’t slow down the Vicksburg High track and field teams.
Tymesha Nabors won the girls 100 and 300 meter hurdles, and Leon Miles won the boys 110 and 300 meter hurdles to lead 11 first-place finishers from VHS at the Region 2-5A meet Thursday at Germantown High School.
Other winners for the girls’ team were Keiyana Gaskin in the 100 meters, Jade Douglas in the 800 meters, and the 4×200, 4×100 and 4×400 meter relay teams.
Winners for the boys’ team were Miles in the two hurdles events. Greg Lewis in the 100 meters, Tyler McDowell in the long jump and triple jump, and the 4×100, 4×200 and 4×400 meter relay teams.
A total of 18 athletes from both teams advanced to next week’s Class 5A North State meet, which will also be held at Germantown. The top four finishers in each event at the regional meet advanced to North State, and the top four at North State advance to the Class 5A state meet.
The state meet will be held May 7 at Pearl High School.
